A little about me…

I have been an artist my whole life. Fascinated with the simple shapes and colors that make up complex images in the world.

I received a BFA and an MFA from Michigan State University. My emphasis was Graphic Design and Printmaking. I did my graduate work as a screen printer and some of this work contains snippets from prints done during graduate school and soon following. Reuse. Recycle.

Following grad school, I worked in a shared studio space for some years with up to 13 local artists. The studio was equipped with an etching press I purchased for the place and attracted intaglio printmakers. I worked on screen printing and started to work with handmade paper. My work was exhibited locally and around the state. Many works were sold around Detroit through an artist’s agent. During these studio years, I taught art at the local community college. Classes were in color theory, design, and printmaking and computer graphics.

My current work uses acrylic paint and decorative papers on cradled board. The panels are free from framing and the paint goes around the edges. The designs are based on concepts or inspirations that I might pick up until a series leads me off on another tangent. I am a straight edge person until I try circles. I am a color and texture person and play with the patterns of the decorative papers and the stroke texture of the paint. Overlapping areas within the panel add depth and a sense of playfulness along with the feeling of dimension.
